Walmart employee shot and killed by alleged shoplifter

LILBURN, Ga. --Police say a Georgia Walmart employee was shot and killed Sunday night trying while trying to apprehend a shoplifting suspect, reports CBS affiliate WGCL.

Jaseramie Dion Ferguson, 25, was pursuing a man who appeared to be taking three flat screen televisions just after 9 p.m, when the suspect opened fire, according to police in Lilburn, Georgia.

Ferguson was taken to an area hospital where he died a short time later. Another security officer who was assisting Ferguson was not injured, said Lilburn Police Captain Thomas Bardugon.

"He got past the first doors and was about to go through the interior doors of the parking lot when he was stopped," Bardugon said.

The suspect is described as a black male around 5' 9" tall, with a medium build and a bald or shaved head. He is believed to be in his 30's. He was wearing a gray denim button-down shirt with dark pants.

Police say the suspect was driving an older model, dark red, four-door Saturn or Honda.
