(CBS/AP) MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. - Two men have received life prison sentences for shooting and setting fire to a pregnant Detroit woman because one of the men didn't want another child.

A jury in May found 23-year-old Warren residents Jamal Rogers and Antonio Mathis guilty of attempted murder and conspiracy.

On Tuesday, Macomb County Circuit Judge Richard Caretti in Mount Clemens gave the men the maximum sentence of life with the possibility of parole.

CBS Detroit reports that Latonya Bowman, who was 9-months pregnant, went to a drive-in movie with her ex-boyfriend, Rogers, in May 2012.

After the movie, Bowman reportedly drove Rogers back home and that's when Mathis pointed a gun at her.

The two men allegedly wrapped Bowman in duct tape, forced her into the back seat and drove her to a vacant field.

The 22-year-old victim was then doused in lighter fluid, set on fire and shot in the shoulder.

Police say Rogers wanted Bowman dead because he didn't want another child.

According to the station, the victim survived by rolling on the ground to extinguish the fire and pretending to be dead. She gave birth to a boy days after the attack.

Bowman testified at the trial.
