The New Year's essay by former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo that was broadcast Dec. 30 on CBS News Sunday Morning
was illustrated by photographs from the book "American Icons" by photographer Steve Gottlieb.

Gottlieb will be publishing another book of photographs in this year. It's titled "Abandoned America" and contains images of unusual abandoned things he has found all over the country.
