Henry Cavill is the New Superman. Who Else Had The Role?

NEW YORK (CBS) Henry Cavill is the latest actor to play Superman, but it's a role that has been molded by a string of actors who came before him.

Warner Bros. announced Sunday that the British actor, best known for his role in "The Tudors" would take on the Man of Steel in the latest reboot of the popular franchise.

Who else has had the role?

George Reeves: The actor who played Stuart Tarleton in Gone with the Wind originate d the Superman/Clark Kent role in the classic TV series that ran from 1952 to 1958.

Christopher Reeve: The New York actor make his mark playing Superman in the 1978 hut and when on to star in two sequels until a horse-riding accident paralyzed him and cut short his action-hero film career.

Dean Cain: He is most widely known for playing the action hero from Kryyton in the Emmy-winning television series "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," which aired from 1993 to 1997.

Bramdon Routh: The Iowa actor took on the role in 2006's "Superman Returns," which did little to breathe new life into the Superman saga.

Tom Welling: The 33-year-old actor plays Superman in "Smallville," the TV series that debuted in 2001.
