Girl found unconscious on Magic Mountain roller coaster dies
LOS ANGELES -- A 10-year-old girl has died after she was found unconscious Friday on a Six Flags Magic Mountain roller coaster, officials said Monday.
CBS Los Angeles reports that the victim was identified as Jasmine Martinez, according to Los Angeles County Coroner's officials.
The theme park in Valencia said in a statement Friday that Martinez had been found breathing, but unconscious, after returning to the Revolution station after riding the steel roller coaster.
Paramedics were immediately called to the scene.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the guest and her family," the park said in a statement.
Firefighters indicated that Martinez had an altered level of consciousness. She was subsequently taken via airship with a parent to Northridge Hospital, which confirmed Monday that she had been transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center over the weekend.
The roller coaster is described on the park's website as the first roller coaster to feature a full vertical loop. It hits 55 mph and goes up a 113-foot hill.
It was not immediately known whether Martinez's death was related to the ride.
Coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter said Monday that an autopsy will determine the cause of death.
A spokesperson for Six Flags released the following statement Monday: "Jasmine came into the ride station unconscious and was treated at the scene and airlifted immediately to an area hospital. Over 45 million guests have safely ridden Revolution since it opened in 1976. There is no evidence to suggest that this was in any way ride related."
The Revolution ride has been temporarily closed pending a review, according to Six Flags.
