Girl, 13, turns self in after elderly Missouri couple shot

ST. LOUIS - A 13-year-old girl turned herself into police after an elderly couple was shot and critically wounded at a beauty supply store in Missouri Tuesday afternoon, reports CBS affiliate KMOV.

Police had been called to Kings Beauty Supply Store in Bellefontaine Neighbors, Missouri earlier in the day Tuesday, after two girls -- one of whom is believed to be the suspected shooter -- attempted to steal several items.

The youths were stopped by the two elderly victims, both in their 70s, who got the items back before kicking the alleged would-be thieves out of the store. The incident was not initially reported to police, but after the girls returned, authorities were notified.

When police arrived, they found the two on an adjacent parking lot and took one of the girls into custody, because she had a previous juvenile warrant. The second girl, the 13-year-old, was given a formal warning for trespassing and released.

According to police, later in the day, around 4 p.m., the 13-year-old returned to the store and shot the couple. A witness reportedly saw her leaving the store with a gun and several stolen items.

The teenager turned herself into police Wednesday morning. She has not been formally charged.
