Gerber recalls some organic baby food

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- New Jersey-based Gerber Products Co. says it's recalling two types of organic baby food because of a packaging defect that could make them susceptible to spoilage while being transported and handled.

The Florham Park company says the voluntary recall involves two batches of Gerber Organic 2nd Foods Pouches - Pears, Carrots & Peas and two batches of Gerber Organic 2nd Foods Pouches - Carrots, Apples & Mangoes. It says the products have best by dates of July 12, 13 and 14. It says those pouches may be bloated or the product inside may have an off taste or odor.

Gerber said Thursday consumers who have the food pouches shouldn't use them and should call 1-800-706-0556 for replacement coupons anytime day or night.

The food pouches are being removed from the company's retail and online stores.

Gerber specifies that there are the items being recalled:

Gerber Organic 2ND FOODS Pouches - Pears, Carrots & Peas, 3.5 ounce pouch, UPC: 15000074319: Batch: 51945335XX, best by date of July 12, 2016 Batch: 51955335XX, best by date of July 13, 2016

And Gerber Organic 2ND FOODS Pouches - Carrots, Apples & Mangoes, 3.5 ounce pouch, UPC: 15000074395: Batch: 519555335XX, best by date of July 13, 2016 Batch: 51965335XX, best by date of July 14, 2016
