Ga. teen accused of killing grandmother with baseball bat

BUTTS COUNTY, Ga. - A central Georgia teenager is accused of beating his grandmother to death with a baseball bat after she said she couldn't take him to the store to buy cigarettes, reports CBS Atlanta.

Sheriff's deputies said JeNorman Bland, 18, is charged with murder, false imprisonment, kidnapping and armed robbery.

Bland told investigators he went to his grandmother's house in Jackson, about 50 miles south of Atlanta, asking for a ride to a nearby store to buy cigarettes, but she was getting ready for work.

Deputies said Bland chased his grandmother, Glenda Woodard, through her house and repeatedly struck her with the bat, according to the station.

Woodard was found dead inside her home around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers say Bland took his grandmother's car and drove to Griffin where he was arrested. Investigators said the high school senior did not have a past criminal history.

Bland reportedly lived next door to his grandmother. A steady stream of people visited the house on Wednesday to support the family.
