Georgia doctors charged with murder in plastic surgery deaths
COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- Two Georgia doctors have been charged with felony murder for deaths of two women undergoing plastic surgery in 2013, reports CBS affiliate WGCL.
Surgeon Nedra Dodds and her assistant Kevin McCowan were indicted by a Cobb County Grand Jury Thursday. Dodds and McCowan face two counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated battery, and two counts of theft by deception.
April Jenkins died in February 2013 while undergoing liposuction performed by Dodds. The medical examiner found a perforation in Jenkins' diaphragm, as well as multiple puncture wounds to her liver.
Four months after Jenkins' death, another woman, Erica Beaubrun, died during a buttocks reduction performed by Dodds.
Dodds' license was suspended in February 2014 after Georgia's medical board found that her "continued practice of medicine poses a threat to the public health, safety and welfare."
Her license was formally revoked soon after.
