Gangs shoot up child's birthday party in Stamford, Conn.

(CBS/AP) STAMFORD, Conn. - Three men were treated for gunshot wounds after rival gangs in Stamford, Conn. opened fire at a 15-year-old girl's birthday party this weekend, CBS New York reports.

The gangs traded gunfire and sprayed bullets everywhere early Saturday morning outside 18 James St., in what The Stamford Advocate described as "a quiet beach neighborhood in the Cove."

Stray bullets hit two nearby houses and parked cars. One bullet came within inches of a woman sitting in her bed in a house adjacent to the party.

Renee Deschaine, who lives in a neighboring second-floor apartment, said she was forced to dive out of bed to take cover. She said there were so many shots in succession, she thought it was fireworks.

The three men who were injured by the gunfire were taken to Stamford Hospital, from which two had been released as of Sunday. The third was admitted to the hospital after surgery, the paper reported.

A 21-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the left forearm, another man of the same age was wounded in the right shoulder, and a 22-year-old man was hit in his left leg, according to the paper.

Two guns believed to be involved were recovered - one at the hospital, the other in a vehicle pulled over after the shooting, the paper said.
