Fla. "Voodoo priest" charged with sexually abusing child

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Police say there may be more victims after a South Florida man who calls himself a "Voodoo priest" was charged Friday with sexual battery on a child, reports CBS Miami.

Officials in Sunrise, Fla. say 48-year old Brogenet Cinor had sex with an 11-year-old girl sometime between 2009 and 2010 after telling her mother the child had bad spirits in her and she needed to be cleansed. Police say Cinor took the girl to a shed-like structure behind his home, had sex with her, and restrained her arms.

A few weeks after the incident, the girl reportedly told her mother what happened. When the mother contacted Cinor, he denied the allegations and told her if she mentioned them to anyone else she would die, police said.

The girl went to the police in 2014 which prompted their investigation into Cinor, reports the station. Police allege he manipulated his victims into keeping quiet.

"He was using the victims' belief in voodoo and curses and the fact that they believe that they could die if they did not follow his instructions," Sunrise police spokeswoman Cindi McCue told CBS Miami.

Police reportedly contacted two adult sisters during their investigation who went to Cinor for spiritual healing between 2008 and 2009. Both reportedly had sex with Cinor and became pregnant, and Cinor reportedly paid to have their pregnancies terminated.

He allegedly told them they would die if they told anyone about their relationship. Cinor has not been charged in that case because police determined the sex to be consensual, reports the station.

"Our fear is that there may be many other victims who have not come forward, that we would like to be able to talk with, if there are other victims," McCue told the station.

Anyone with information is urged to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at (954) 493- TIPS.
