Father drowns while trying to save son in river

PITTSBURG, Calif. -- Authorities will resume their search on Monday for the body of a father who is believed to have drowned while trying to save his son in the Sacramento River, CBS San Francisco reports.

Officers received a report of a man missing in the waters off of the Pittsburg Marina around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Pittsburg Police Department.

Upon their arrival, authorities learned a 52-year-old Fairfield man jumped into the river to rescue his son, who fell out of a boat without a life jacket on.

The boy was rescued by others. He was transported to a hospital and was treated for hypothermia. Hospital officials say the boy is expected to make a full recovery.

The father, however, disappeared under the water. He has not been seen since.

Authorities continued their search on Sunday, but were unable to locate the man.

The incident remains under investigation.
