Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg writes book about female leadership

Facebook chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg wants to impart her leadership knowledge to other women, and to do it she's penning a book called "Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sandberg's book will be less about her high-up roles at Facebook and Google and more about encouraging readers to achieve leadership positions. She will share both her personal and professional experiences.

"I wrote 'Lean In' so women can make more informed choices and increase their chances of making it to the top of any field or pursue any goal with gusto," Sandberg said in a statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "And I wrote it for men who want to understand the challenges women face so they can do their part to build an equal world."

As Facebook's COO, Sandberg is one of the most successful and powerful women in the tech sector. She started her career as an economist with the World Bank and served as chief of staff for the U.S. Treasury Department in the Clinton administration. Before joining Facebook, she worked as a top ad sales executive for Google. She is the first and only female to be appointed to Facebook's board of directors.

"Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead," is being published by Alfred A. Knopf and is scheduled to hit bookstores March 12, 2013.
