FAA: Southwest flight reports drone sighting during landing in Dallas

DALLAS - The pilot of a Southwest Airlines flight reported passing a drone on final approach to Dallas Love Field Airport Friday afternoon, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) tells CBS News.

In a statement, the FAA said the pilot of Southwest Flight 28 reported seeing "a small quad-copter passing a few hundred feet off the left wing of the Southwest Boeing 737 while it was on a one-mile final approach to Dallas Love Field."

The FAA said no evasive action was necessary and the plane landed without incident.

A controller in the airport's air traffic control tower spotted the small, unmanned aircraft and notified the Dallas Police Department, according to the FAA.

Landing traffic at the airport was moved to the airport's east runway while a police helicopter searched the area.

The FAA is investigating.
