Ex-Vegas firefighter found guilty in wife's murder-for-hire

LAS VEGAS -- A Nevada jury says a former Las Vegas firefighter is guilty of conspiring with a homeless ex-convict to murder his estranged wife.

George Tiaffay showed no reaction as the verdict was read Thursday in Clark County District Court.

The 43-year-old U.S. Military Academy graduate didn't testify during his weeklong trial on murder, conspiracy and other charges in the September 2012 slaying of Shauna Tiaffay.

Her admitted killer, Noel Stevens, told the jury last week that George Tiaffay promised him $5,000, bought the murder weapon and plotted several methods to kill Shauna Tiaffay.

Stevens hid in her apartment and attacked her when she got home from a night shift serving cocktails at a Las Vegas resort.

George Tiaffay was at work at the time.

Defense attorney Robert Langford maintained that Stevens couldn't be believed.
