Ex-teacher pleads guilty to having sex with student

TULSA, Okla. - A former Sand Springs, Okla. teacher admitted a little over a week ago to having sex with a 17-year-old male student, reports CBS affiliate KOTV.

Erin Kathleen Queen, 30, received a three-year suspended sentence after pleading guilty to contributing to the delinquency of a minor in Tulsa County court on March 21, according to the station. She also had to surrender her teaching privileges and pay a $600 fine, according to the Tulsa World.

"It's very frustrating to us that she basically got a slap on the wrist," Shasta Belty, mother of the male student, told the World on Friday.

Queen was an English teacher at Charles Page High School when she was arrested in March of 2012 after being caught at a Tulsa motel with the then-17-year-old, KOTV reports. The boy's parents had called police, which led to the arrest. Queen resigned from the high school shortly thereafter.

Court records show that the state dismissed a charge of second-degree rape in exchange for Queen's guilty plea to the lesser charge.

"I cussed. I cried. I totally disagreed with it," Belty told the World. "[The prosecutor] was under the impression that we were okay with a conviction as long as [Queen] never taught again. Well, we were okay with a conviction - of the second-degree rape... or something that represents the sexual misconduct."
