Dwayne Johnson named People’s Sexiest Man Alive, contemplating a presidential run

Can you smell what People magazine is cooking?

The publication has released its annual Sexiest Man Alive issue, and this year the honor goes to Dwayne Johnson.

When quizzed by the magazine about what his fans might see in him that qualifies him as Sexiest Man Alive, Johnson chose his words carefully.

“This is the kind of question that gets me into trouble,” he said, before settling on “a sense of humor. And I think probably just not trying to be sexy and just being cool and confident in your movies. I think with a lot of my fans, I’ve gotten to a very, very cool place where there’s a direct line between the man they know off-screen and the man they see on-screen.”

He also credits his win to a good skincare regimen: “It starts with the skin,” he said. “We’ve only got one face. You’ve got to take care of it. So I exfoliate.”

The only problem, as Johnson sees it, is he might have peaked now that he’s earned the distinction.

“I said, ‘That’s awesome.’ And then what went through my mind was just how cool and exciting it is,” Johnson said of his initial reaction to the news. “And then I thought, ‘Wow, we’ve pretty much reached the pinnacle.’ I’m not quite too sure where we go from here. I’ve done it all, this is it.”

Well, maybe not, as it turns out. Johnson could be soon making a pivot into politics.

“I love my country, I’m extremely patriotic and I also feel -- especially now -- leadership is so important, great leadership is so important, respected leadership is so important,” Johnson told Reuters while promoting his new Disney film, “Moana.”

As for specifically making a run for the White House? “If I felt like I could be an effective leader for us, and surround myself with really high-quality leaders, then sure, I would,” he said.
