Duke WR Blair Holliday in critical condition after boating accident

(CBS/AP) DURHAM, N.C. - Duke says sophomore receiver Blair Holliday suffered head injuries in a boating accident on Wednesday.

School officials said in a statement that Holliday was in critical condition Thursday after he was taken by air to the UNC Trauma Center in Chapel Hill.

The school says the accident took place on Lake Tillery. The body of water is located roughly an hour east of Charlotte and just south of the Uwharrie National Forest.

North Carolina Wildlife officials told the News and Observer on Thursday that Holliday unintentionally collided with Blue Devil teammate Jamison Crowder while riding a jet ski on the lake.

No other details of the accident were immediately available.

Coach David Cutcliffe says Holliday's family is "one of tremendous character and strength" and says his thoughts and prayers are with them.

Holliday caught three passes for 30 yards in 10 games as a freshman last season. CBSSports.com notes that at the conclusion of spring practice, he was named Duke's Most Improved Offensive Player.
