Drew Peterson movie draws record audience for Lifetime

Kaley Couco and Rob Lowe star in "Drew Peterson: Untouchable." Lifetime Network

(CBS) Lifetime Network won record viewership numbers Saturday night with "Drew Petersen: Untouchable," the made-for-TV movie starring Rob Lowe.

The network said Monday it averaged about 5.8 million total viewers when the movie premiered Jan. 21. It was aired again Monday night and is also scheduled to be shown Jan. 28.

The movie is based on a true story about Chicago-area police officer Drew Peterson, whose fall from grace was precipitated by the disappearance of his much younger fourth wife, played by Kaley Cuoco of "The Big Bang Theory." Investigation into that mystery led to new questions about the accidental death of his third wife.

In a case that has generated nationwide headlines, Peterson is awaiting trial on charges that he murdered that third wife.

In a press release issued Monday, Nancy Dubuc, president and general manager of Lifetime Networks, said, "This is an amazing way to start the year and is a direct result of our aggressive strategy to green light quality programming that showcases such A-List talent as Rob Lowe(who played Peterson) and Kaley Cuoco giving captivating performances."
