Dogs to hit the runway during Fashion Week in New York

The New Yorker Hotel presents Big City Little Dog Fashion Show launching the new spring line New Yorkie to benefit Angel on a Leash. Daniel Barker

(CBS) Fashion models aren't the only ones prepping for February's Fashion Week in New York: Four-legged models are getting ready to hit the runway next month too.

A series of dogs will wag their tails and strut their stuff, or more appropriately -- their paws, as they show off the new line of New Yorkie pet apparel on Feb. 10 at Manhattan's pet-friendly New Yorker Hotel.

This isn't a fashion show introducing the latest trends for men and women, but one dedicated to clothing for man's (or woman's) best friend. Anyone who walks around New York City knows pet owners shell out a lot of money on threads for their pooches.

David Frei, voice of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, will emcee the couture event. "Schmitty The Weather Dog" and meteorologist Ron Trotta are among the dog and human personalities/celebrities expected to attend.

And it's all for a good cause. Proceeds from the benefit go to Angel on a Leash, a non-profit organization that creates therapy dog programs for hospitals and institutions. The doggie fashion event takes place three days before the start of the 136th annual Westminster Dog Show.

Tickets for the second annual New Yorkie Runway event can be purchased here.

Woof woof!
