Diddy visits "Downton Abbey" in video spoof

Diddy on "Downton Abbey"? Yes, sort of.

The rapper and music mogul sent the social media sphere into a tizzy on Wednesday, when he tweeted that he would be appearing on the British period drama: "MY BIG NEWS: So happy to announce that Im a series regular on DOWNTON ABBEY-my favorite show+i'll be debuting a sneak peek tonight 12am PST!"

He then began retweeting messages from followers reacting to the announcement, and even changed his Twitter avatar and background to the "Downton Abbey" logo.

His tweets got so much attention that PBS, which airs the show in the U.S., had to clarify to Reuters that it was "not true."

True to his word, he did debut a video early Thursday -- but it was a Funny or Die spoof. In the clip, he reiterates his announcement that he's joined the cast of "Downton Abbey" (which he pronounces as "Down-town Abbey") and offers up a sneak peak. He's then inserted into familiar scenes from the show alongside the Crawley family and their servants.

You can watch the "Downton Diddy" video here, though be warned that it includes some language the Dowager Countess would not approve of.

The real "Downton Abbey," meanwhile, will be back on U.S. airwaves next year, when the fourth season premieres on PBS on Jan. 5.
