Denver man arrested on suspicion of murder in wife's death

DENVER - A Denver man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in his wife's death, reports CBS Denver.

Police were called to a home in Denver around 9:30 p.m. Monday on reports of a domestic disturbance. When authorities arrived, they found a woman dead of an apparent gunshot wound, according to the station.

Richard Kirk, 47, has been taken into custody on suspicion of first-degree murder in the death.

Police would not release the victim's name, but said she was the suspect's wife.

According to an arrest affidavit obtained by the station, Kirk's wife called 911 Monday evening to report her husband had been smoking marijuana and was hallucinating and scaring the couple's three young children.

The documents also reportedly state that Richard Kirk was talking about the end of the world and that he wanted his wife to shoot him.

The affidavit says that the victim was on the phone with the 911 operator when the shooting took place.
