Cops: Victim in Ky. school shooting was not intended target

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A teen who was shot Tuesday afternoon in a Louisville, Ky. high school was not the intended target, police tell CBS News.

"It now appears that the shooter was targeting a different person," said Louisville Metropolitan Police spokesperson Dwight Mitchell.

Police said the 16-year-old assailant, a sophomore at Fern Creek Traditional High School, opened fire at around 1 p.m. Tuesday, according to CBS affiliate WLKY.

A 15-year-old student was struck twice, in the stomach and leg. The victim was brought to a hospital and is currently in stable condition, Mitchell said.

The suspect was apprehended in an apartment complex near the school, about three hours after the shooting, according to WLKY.

The teen's charges include assault and wanton endangerment. He was transported to a juvenile detention center after questioning Tuesday, reports WLKY.

The school was evacuated Tuesday afternoon, but classes resumed Wednesday morning.
