(CBS/AP) BAY CITY, Texas - Police say that a man shot and killed two children and wounded a woman and two other children before turning the gun on himself in a home southeast of Houston Wednesday, reports CBS affiliate KHOU.
The man was found with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, said Bay City police Lt. Andrew Lewis. The woman is in surgery and the conditions of the two surviving children, who are in Houston hospitals, are unknown.
Authorities have not released the names of the victims or shooter, but neighbors told KHOU that the incident involved a family who had fallen on hard times.
"[The father] worked nights and all of a sudden he was having trouble with his family," said Juan Elizondo, a neighbor. "He had lost his job."
Elizondo said that his daughter saw the shootings as she walked home from school.
"His (youngest) kid was in the truck, and then he shot his other three kids, and then he shot himself in the head," he said.
Neighbor Lisa Perez also saw the carnage.
"A lot of people saw the two bodies on the ground, both of the little boys, one near his dad, and the little girl was apparently in the vehicle," Perez told KHOU.
