Cops: Man killed daughter, 3, before shootout with police

TEMPLE HILLS , Md. - Police in Prince George's County, Md. say a man wounded two people and killed his 3-year-old daughter before leading police on a chase and being killed in a shootout, reports CBS Baltimore.

Police began pursuing Frederick Roy Miller, 38, on Saturday after responding to the scene of a shooting where a man and woman were critically wounded. Police say Miller fled in a car and shot at officers on two occasions before being killed in Temple Hills. The 3-year-old - Laila Miller - was found in his car with a gunshot wound and her throat slit, according to the station.

Police say the man and woman who were critically shot were the girl's caretakers, her maternal grandfather and great-grandmother.

CBS Baltimore reports Miller, a Marine veteran, was engaged in a custody battle with the 3-year-old's mother.

Police say they had no prior contact with the family about any domestic problems.

Both grandparents remain in critical condition, according to the station.

The 3-year-old's mother was not present at the time of the shooting. She was found unharmed.

The officers involved in the shooting were not injured. All six were reportedly placed on administrative leave.
