Cops: Ind. infant abducted; Amber Alert issued

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Officials in Indianapolis are searching for a six-week-old baby boy who they say was abducted from his father during a gunpoint robbery, reports CBS affiliate WISH.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police issued an Amber Alert around 10 p.m. Wednesday for the baby, Delano Wilson. The child is reportedly believed to be in extreme danger.

The child's father reportedly told police he was walking in an alley near downtown Indianapolis, holding his son, around noon Wednesday when he was approached by a man and a woman. He said the man pointed a gun at him and hit him in the head with the weapon, reports the station.

The father said he lost consciousness, and when he woke up, he allegedly saw the woman carrying his son away.

Taniasha Perkins, 22, the baby's mother, begged for Delano's safe return.

"He means the world to me and his dad. We are good parents, we work hard. We work really hard to provide for our child and for you to take him away is just tearing a hole in my family and in my heart," she told reporters at an impromptu news conference Thursday morning.

Police used a helicopter and search dogs to help scour the neighborhood for any sign of the couple and the baby, city police Sgt. Kendale Adams said.

"We began a grid search of that particular area that lasted a number of hours," Adams told reporters when asked why it took authorities more than eight hours to issue the Amber Alert.

Adams said the child's parents did not know the abductors.

Police describe the male suspect as white, between the ages of 25 and 30, with a medium build, short brown hair, and wearing a black do-rag, a red T-short, blue jean shorts and red and black tennis shoes. They say he was with a Hispanic female, between 25 and 30, with a thin build and long brown hair. She was wearing a green shirt and matching green hoop earrings.

Police say the duo was driving a blue, four-door, 2000-2003 model Ford Taurus.

The infant is described as black male, about 16 inches long, wearing a dark blue-colored baby onesie.

The baby's father, Willie Wilson, 23, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest on unrelated marijuana possession charges and is currently in jail, reports the station. The arrest was not related to his son's reported abduction, according to the station.

Anyone with information about Delano or the abductors' whereabouts should call the IMPD at 1-888-58AMBER, or dial 911.
