Confident Romney Greet Nevada Caucus-Goers

(CBS)
From CBS News' Scott Conroy:

LAS VEGAS -- As the sun rose over the mountains here this morning, a friendly crowd of over 50 people greeted Mitt Romney outside the Palo Verde High School caucus site. Romney seemed in good spirits as supporters held signs, including one that read, "Go For The Gold."

"I feel pretty good," Romney said. "I've seen some polls published in the papers here in Nevada and they've been very encouraging for me. I need people to show up at the caucuses to vote. Polls are one thing. Actually showing up, that's something else."

Republican caucus-goers were set to gather around the state at 9 a.m. local time to cast their ballots.

Romney handed out donuts to voters and then stood on a pickup truck as he spoke to the small but enthusiastic crowd.

"You guys have been turning folks out, and by virtue of doing that, I think we're going to have a great successful day here," Romney said. "Across the country in South Carolina people are voting also, and I'm hoping to do real well there. I'd like to win. I don't know what the outcome of that one will be."

Romney also spoke about last night's appearance on The Tonight Show.

"You don't imagine in your life you're going to get to be on Jay Leno, especially if you have no talent," He said. "And so being there with him for, I don't know, 14 minutes was kind of a thrill."

The campaign now moves back east to Florida where Romney is scheduled to hold a rally with supporters in Jacksonville tonight. The former Massachusetts governor will brief reporters on his economic stimulus plan on the flight over to the Sunshine State.
