(CBS) LOS ANGELES - Chris Brown was charged Tuesday by the Los Angeles City Attorney with criminal hit-and-run in connection with a minor accident in May where the 24-year-old singer allegedly rear-ended a Mercedes, CBS Los Angeles reports.

Brown is also charged with driving without a valid license, according to the station.

The singer is accused of providing fake insurance information and refusing to show his driver's license to the other driver after the accident took place.

Brown is scheduled to be arraigned on July 15 in Van Nuys and  could face 16 months in jail for each offense, CBS Los Angeles reported.

It is unclear if this case will affect Brown's probation stemming from a domestic abuse conviction involving ex-girlfriend and fellow singer Rihanna.
