(CBS) CHICAGO - Shootings across Chicago over the weekend have left two dead and at least 17 others injured, reported CBS affiliate WBBM.
The station said one of the shootings happened when gunfire erupted near a passing ambulance on Saturday morning. It forced the paramedics to take cover and call the police.
According to authorities, the paramedics, along with a second ambulance crew, took the two shooting victims to the John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County to be treated for their wounds, said the station.
Jeremiah Moore, 24, who sustained a gunshot wound to the head, died at the hospital around midnight on Saturday. The second victim, a male who authorities believe to be in his late teens or early twenties, was shot in the chest and remains in critical condition, said CBS Chicago.
The station also said that on Sunday morning, two of three people in a car traveling south on the interstate were shot. One of the victims, a 27-year-old male identified as Fredrick Taylor, died, and the other victim, an unnamed female, is in "stable" condition and being treated for a gunshot wound to the chest.
WBBM reported that at least 12 other non-fatal shootings took place over the weekend, leaving at least 15 more wounded, according to state police.
