(CBS/AP) LONDON - A celebrity chef was arrested Friday after reportedly stealing cheese and wine from a Tesco store in a town west of London.

Antony Worrall Thompson apologized on his website Monday for the incident. Worrall Thompson, 60, wrote, "I am so sorry for all my recent stupid and irresponsible actions: I am of course devastated for my family and friends, whom I've let down and will seek the treatment that is clearly needed."

He continued: "I am not the first, and I certainly won't be the last person to do something without rhyme or reason - what went through my head, only time will tell."

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said Thompson committed five separate shoplifting offense over the Christmas holidays, leading to an arrest on Friday.

Worrall Thompson also apologized to the Tesco staff.

According to The Sun newspaper, which did not cite sources, Thompson stole wine and cheese by using a self-checkout machine but not scanning all of the items.

The celebrity chef was given a formal caution - a written rebuke for a crime. He will not be charged further.
