But according to Lippman, George and Cindy Anthony do not want their daughter to receive the death penalty for Caylee's death, reports CNN.

The bombshell came out on CNN's "AC 360."

Today marks Day 27 of the trial. Defense attorneys are continuing to try to poke holes in some of the prosecution's forensic evidence.

Casey Anthony, 25, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee in 2008. If convicted, she could face the death penalty.Prosecutors have argued that Caylee was suffocated by her mother with duct tape. The defense contends Caylee drowned in her grandparents' swimming pool.

Defense attorneys have called today's first witness to the stand, FBI hair and fiber expert Stephen Shaw, who testified for the state earlier in the trial.

Caylee's remains were found in December 2008, almost six months after she went missing in Orlando.

The Casey Anthony case was recently reported on by "48 Hours Mystery."
