Bush scion breaks with family, supports Trump: report

George P. Bush, the Texas land commissioner and scion of the prominent Bush dynasty, is urging Republicans to vote for GOP nominee Donald Trump, the Texas Tribune reports.

Many members of the Bush family, including Jeb Bush, the father of George P. Bush, have said they will not back Trump. But George P. Bush, who serves as the Texas GOP's victory chairman, says that voters who wanted another nominee should vote for Trump regardless.

"From Team Bush, it's a bitter pill to swallow, but you know what? You get back up and you help the man that won, and you make sure that we stop Hillary Clinton," Bush said Saturday at a meeting of GOP activists, according to a video provided to the Tribune by an audience member.

In his capacity as GOP victory chairman, George P. Bush "is responsible for overseeing the party's statewide campaign in November," according to the paper.

Former presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush have joined Jeb Bush in refusing to endorse Trump. George P. Bush, meanwhile, is considered a rising star in Texas politics, and has been the state's land commissioner, a statewide office, since 2015.
