(CBS) TAMPA, Fla. - A 22-year-old man arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of his pregnant girlfriend, has been charged with second-degree murder, according to CBS affiliate WTSP.

Tampa police have reportedly charged Jamar Silas after two witnesses said they saw him leave the home where Brianna Anderson died immediately after hearing a gunshot.

According to the station, detectives say Silas also sent someone a text message saying he has messed up and that Anderson was dead.

When responding to a call on October 2, authorities found 8-months-pregnant Brianna Anderson with a gunshot wound to the head.

After a manhunt and a brief car chase, they arrested Silas.

The baby was delivered via cesarean section at the Tampa General Hospital and had been listed in stable condition. The 22-year-old mother was later pronounced dead.
