Forecasters with the U.S. National Hurricane Center said the center of Bonnie came ashore Friday midday near Cutler Bay, about 20 miles south of Miami. It then moved back into the eastern Gulf and was about 85 miles southwest of Sarasota late Friday.

Bonnie could strengthen as it moves over the Gulf but also could fall apart before reaching land. The storm is moving north-northwest near 17 mph.

Forecasters say the storm should reach the northern Gulf Coast Saturday night or early Sunday.
