Body found in Utah ID'd as missing 23-year-old woman

SALT LAKE CITY - A body discovered in the mountains north of Ogden earlier this week has been identified as a missing 23-year-old woman, reports CBS affiliate KUTV.

Amber Lyne Smith, of Ogden, is believed to have gone missing around the first part of April, authorities say.

Smith reportedly lived in the area where her body was found by a mountain biker on Monday. Authorities say the 23-year-old was known to go hiking.

The Salt Like Tribune reports Smith's cause of death has not yet been determined but authorities are investigating the case as suspicious. Authorities won't say whether she suffered any apparent physical trauma.

Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Lane Findlay told the paper that while Smith hadn't been seen for several weeks, she had not officially been reported missing.

"She had a roommate, and apparently there had been communications between [the roommate] and her friends and family that she was missing, but for whatever reason no one officially came forward to file a police report," he said.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact authorities at (801)-778-6638.
