Big Bling: Onassis Jewels On The Block

Some of the most precious jewels in the iconic family of the late Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis were to be auctioned Wednesday at the prestigious in London.

CBS News correspondent Richard Roth reports the heirlooms were expected to bring in more than $15 million.

One piece up for bid: a Harry Winston pendant diamond valued at about $4 million.

Another one: a small object that sailed on the Onassis yacht -- a Faberge-designed Buddha with a bouncing head, expected to bring more half-a-million dollars. As Roth put it, "a dashboard ornament for the very, very rich!"

The event, notes Roth, "is being sold as a celebration of an era," one in which "celebrity glittered like a diamond big as the Ritz."
