Benjamin Elpuz, Calif. man, arrested in shooting death of roommate, police say
(CBS) LONG BEACH, Calif. - Police arrested 36-year-old Benjamin Elpuz in connection to the death of his roommate after he allegedly shot him at a Long Beach home on Sunday, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Elpuz was booked at Long Beach City Jail for murder and remains held on Monday in lieu of $1 million bail.
Police responded to report of a shooting at a home on Easy Avenue and found the victim shot in the upper torso, the Times reported. The man was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Police are withholding the victim's name pending notification of his family.
Officers were then led to a home on Myrtle Avenue where they arrested Elpuz without incident on Sunday evening.
Investigators believe the incident began with an argument between the two men that escalated.
