BEACH CITY, Texas – One hundred homes have been evacuated in Beach City, east of Houston, after lightning struck crude oil tankers at a plant, triggering a fire, CBS affiliate KHOU reports.

The Chambers County Sheriff's Office says homes within a half mile radius of the fire were evacuated as a precaution. Officials later halted evacuations, KHOU reports.

The tankers were hit by lightning as storms passed through Houston and then our coastal communities early Friday, the station reported.

Firefighters were setting up sensors to test the air quality as a precaution, KHOU reported.
