Arrest in death of NYC man found in bathtub

NEW YORK - Police say a Manhattan man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 46-year-old man found dead in a bathtub.

Jeffrey Wong was charged with murder after his arrest Thursday. It wasn't immediately clear if he had a lawyer.

Police say Khemraj Singh, of Manhattan, was found dead in his apartment on West 48th Street and Ninth Avenue on Wednesday.

Detectives say the death was staged to look like a slip and fall, reports CBS New York. Bloodied scissors were found at the scene but police reportedly do not believe they were the murder weapon.

The motive was not immediately clear. According to the station, Wong lives a block away from the victim and the two are believed to have met at a nearby bar.

Those who live in Singh's neighborhood say they were shocked to learn what happened.

"When I heard it was Singh I said, 'that's not possible,'" neighbor Debbie Faison told the station.

John Bolger, another neighbor, said Singh was the type of person who "would do anything for you."

"He always had a smile on his face. He was a gentle guy. He was really a fixture in the neighborhood," Bolger said.

Wong reportedly admitted to being in Singh's apartment but denies any involvement in his death.
