Angelina Jolie Prevented From Filming Directorial Debut in Bosnia
NEW YORK (CBS) Angelina Jolie's application to film her directorial debut on location in Bosnia has been rejected by the country's culture minister.
Gavrilo Grahovac, the minister, said the filming permit was denied because no screenplay was attached to the application, as required by law, the BBC reports.
"They no longer have the authorization to shoot in Bosnia," Grahovac said in a radio interview.
The untitled film, currently shooting in Hungary, will reportedly tell a love story between a Serbian rapist and a Bosnian victim set in the middle of the 1992-1995 war. It will starBosnian actress Zana Marjanovicand actor Rade Serbedzija. Jolie will not appear in the film.
Jolie's film has been angrily opposed by the Women's Victims of War, which claims the movie would be "misleading history."
The culture minister said the application will be approved "if they send us the scenario with a story which will be different from what we have been told by people who read it."
According to the BBC, Jolie wrote to the women's group last week to reassure them about the film. A script has also been sent to the culture ministry.
