American Music Awards 2013: What to expect at the show
Some of the biggest names in music will gather Sunday for the 2013 American Music Awards in Los Angeles, which is expected to be a performance-heavy and awards-filled star-studded affair.
Artists will be honored in genres ranging from country and pop to hip-hop and Latin. Awards will also be given out in contemporary inspirational and electronic dance music categories, too. Winners are chosen by public vote, all of which have closed -- except for best new artist. That category is still up for grabs and will be decided by viewers. Fans can vote until 9 p.m. ET on Sunday here.
Nominees for single of the year -- a new award -- include Thicke's "Blurred Lines" and Florida Georgia Line and Nelly's "Cruise."
Performers will include Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus, Imagine Dragons, Florida Georgia Line, One Direction and Ke$ha, with Pitbull serving as this year’s host. Many eyes will be on Cyrus as she follows up her MTV Video Music Awards performance and MTV Europe Music Awards stunt. Lady Gaga, meanwhile, will do something off of her new "ARTPOP" album, and Timberlake will bring his smooth dance moves to the stage.
Several stars are expected to attend, including Marc Anthony, Kristen Bell, Michael Bolton, Ciara, Chris Daughtry, Fall Out Boy, Nathan Fillion, Daisy Fuentes, Juan Pablo Galavis, Dave Grohl, Jennifer Hudson, Joan Jett, Heidi Klum, Lady Antebellum, Bill Maher, Kelly Osbourne, Hayden Panettiere, Jeremy Renner, Nicole Richie, Naya Rivera, Emma Roberts, Zoe Saldana, Sarah Silverman and Alicia Silverstone, as well as “Shark Tank” cast members. Some surprise appearances are also in the works.
The American Music Awards will air live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on ABC starting at 8 p.m. ET.
