Alec Baldwin is engaged

(CBS News) Alec Baldwin got an early birthday present this year - an engagement.

The "30 Rock" star popped the question to girlfriend Hilaria Thomas over the weekend.

Baldwin's rep Matthew Hiltzik confirmed the news via Twitter on Monday:

Alec proposed to Hilaria this weekend & we're all excited 4 the newly engaged couple. AB's birthday's tom'w. Great way 2 celebrate!

According to the New York Post, Thomas, a 28-year-old yoga instructor, met Baldwin, 53, in early 2011. The two went public with their relationship last fall, and regularly profess their affection for one another publicly via Twitter.

This will be the first marriage for Thomas, and the second for Baldwin. He was previously married to actress Kim Bassinger, with whom he has a 16-year-old daughter, Ireland.
