​Albuquerque police respond to possible hostage situation downtown

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Police say they received reports of a possible hostage situation in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico, Monday evening, CBS affiliate KRQE reported.

Police say a man ran into the treasurer's office saying that someone was shooting. Police have since arrested the man they believe caused the scare.

Police said on Twitter that someone has been detained and is being questioned.

They originally said an active shooter was reported at City Council. Police then tweeted that there is no evidence of an active shooter at this time, and they are trying to confirm an active hostage situation.

There were meetings being held at the time of the shooting, KRQE reported.

Police say to avoid the area.
