Abandoned newborn found on Los Angeles street

LOS ANGELES -- Detectives continued to search on Wednesday for the mother of an abandoned newborn who was found in a stroller near a church in Exposition Park, CBS Los Angeles reports.

Around 10:30 p.m. on Monday, a witness located a Hispanic male infant, who had his umbilical cord still attached, inside a stroller near St. Agnes Church at Vermont Avenue and Dana Street.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the same person spotted the stroller in the area around 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Authorities were then notified of the incident and responded to the scene.

Paramedics transported the infant to California Hospital in good condition.

A preliminary investigation revealed the infant was left in the area overnight.

Detectives said they plan to review security video in hopes of tracking down the infant's mother.

"We would like her to come forward to make sure she's ok," said Officer Sean Park. "[We would] like to know why the baby was left there."

According to L.A. County's Safe Surrender law, a parent or guardian may surrender an infant no more than 3-days-old with no questions asked as long as the baby shows no sign of abuse.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Los Angeles Police Department at (213) 486-5910.
