73 Free Programs for Mac Users

We don't use Macs here at Business Hacks, but we do love free stuff. So when PC Magazine rounded up a whopping 73 freebies for the Mac OS (I didn't know there were that many programs for the platform, ha ha), I knew we had to share it.

And lest you think they cheated by mixing in Web-based free stuff like Meebo and Google Docs, all 73 picks are bona fide downloads -- with an "emphasis on productivity" (which we always applaud). A couple winning examples for your perusal:

10. Fluid http://fluidapp.com Site-specific browsers, such as Fluid, do one thing: they let you turn a Web site into a launchable application. Fluid will create an icon for the site and launch it in its own Window, which you can treat like any other application. It's perfect for Google Docs, Facebook, Twitter- any site where you spend a lot of time.

51. NeoOffice www.neooffice.org One free office suite that can best OpenOffice.org on the Mac is NeoOffice, which takes the OO.o word processor, spreadsheet, and presentations tools and gives them the full Mac OS interface.

One bit of advice: skip the annoying, endless slideshow version of the story and instead click the category links under the "In This Story" banner. That way you'll at least get a more magazine-style list you can read.

Know of any other worthwhile Mac freebies? Shout 'em out in the comments!
