108-year-old Mariners baseball fan throws historic first pitch

SEATTLE -- A 108-year-old Washington woman made history at a Seattle Mariners game on Saturday when she threw out the first pitch, CBS affiliate Seattle KIRO reports.

Evelyn Jones of Woodinville, Washington became the oldest person in MLB history to throw the first ceremonial pitch. It also happened to be her birthday.

Evelyn climbed the Safeco Field mound at the Seattle Mariners game just before the game started at 7:10 p.m.

Evelyn's daughter, Kay, attributes her mothers longevity to a healthy lifestyle. KIRO reports that Evelyn lived on a wheat and cattle ranch when she was a girl.

She ate lots of beef on the ranch in Eastern Washington, and drank alcohol only when she and her husband, Stanley, would "cut a rug" on weekends.

"That was her favorite thing," Kay told KIRO. "The Saturday night dance."

She and her husband were also huge Mariners fans.

When Evelyn threw the first ceremonial pitch over the weekend, the crowd erupted in applause. The crowd also sang her "Happy Birthday."
