1 killed, 2 injured in Wisconsin skydiving accidents

RACINE, Wis. -- One person has died and two others are injured after separate skydiving accidents in southern Wisconsin.

Racine County sheriff's officials say a 44-year-old Racine man died Sunday afternoon at Sylvania Airport in the Town of York.

Sheriff's Lt. Steve Sikora says preliminary investigations indicate the victim's parachute became entangled with another skydiver's canopy. Sikora tells The Journal Times that the man who died plunged to a road. The other skydiver fell into some trees and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The road where the victim landed is adjacent to the airport, CBS affiliate WDJT reported. Officials are still investigating the accident.

York is about 35 miles northwest of Madison.

In another incident, a female skydiver was injured Sunday when she landed in a cornfield about a mile from her intended landing area at the Fort Atkinson Municipal Airport in Jefferson County. She was taken by air to University Hospital in Madison.
