Celebs, Sites Take Action On World AIDS Day

World Aids Day is today, December 1st, and you might have already noticed that some of our favorite daily Web destinations have taken action to raise awareness for this global epidemic.

Facebook, Twitter and Google joined forces to support Bono and Bobby Shriver's (RED) Campaign, which draws attention and raises money for the crisis in Africa. Twitter users including the hash tag #red have shown their support as well, with tweets automatically transforming to that color. Offline, major brands like Starbucks are even donating 5 cents from selected drinks sold today to the fund.

MTV's very own Staying Alive Foundation is also doing their part in a big way. The non-profit, which launched in 1998, gives money to inspiring youth developing grassroots projects to fight HIV/AIDS in their communities. This year, the foundation hooked up with Travis McCoy, lead singer of the popular band Gym Class Heroes. In June, he traveled to South Africa, Philippines and India to meet and experience the bravery of these local heroes face to face. Each step of his journey was documented for an upcoming special on MTV and inspired a track, One At A Time, being released today with all proceeds benefitting Staying Alive.
