Cindy Sheehan Arrested Outside White House

(AP)
Cindy Sheehan, dressed all in black with the words "greed kills" printed on her chest, was arrested by United States Park Police today after chaining herself to a White House fence as part of a protest against the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

According to organizers, 61 people in total were arrested at the protest, which was also in service of efforts to "Close Guantanamo and Bagram, Surge Spending on Housing and Jobs."

Organizers said hundreds participated in the protest, which included poetry, song, and puppet heads of George Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Condoleezza Rice dressed in prison stripes.

While some protesters chained themselves to the White House fence, others lay on the ground, pretending to be dead, CNN reports. Organizers requested a meeting with President Obama to discuss their beliefs.

Sheehan and some of the other protesters apparently meant to evoke Guantanamo prisoners with their clothing. "On their backs, they wore the names of Guantanamo detainees cleared for release who remain detained under the Obama administration despite the White House’s heralded decision to shutter the prison," organizers said.

Sheehan's son Casey was killed in Iraq in 2004. She became one of the major faces of the antiwar movement during the Bush administration.

The groups involved in the protest were the National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance, the War Resisters League, Witness Against Torture, Code Pink, Peace Action, World Can’t Wait, Veterans for Peace and Voices for Creative Nonviolence.

According to organizers, members of Veterans for Peace carried three coffins, covered in American, Iraqi and Afghani flags, to represent those killed in war.

Asked about the protest at his daily briefing Monday, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said he hadn't heard about it. He addressed the concepts of protests more generally.

"I think the president has long believed that whether your opinion is on one side of the issue or the other, that this is the -- the greatness of our country is that you get to amplify that opinion," he said.

Park police officials said all of those arrested had been cited and released.

Cindy syood up to rhe plate and this is the way she abd oyjers are treated, I am so glad I can't serve in the armed forces due to my age and handicaps. The troops should be here at home . America has to stop telling other nations what they will and will not do. America forces her will on others. That is not right. Our leaders wont listen and so the people try to send the message and this is what they got. Free them.

That's the new norm in "The Homeland". Every cop from Hooterville to the Hudson has been provided with enough gear and uniform items to make the Brownshirts roll in their graves with envy.
.
Heil Homeland!

Cindy Sheehan arrested again? Are you serious? They should have given her a citation for stupidity.
GREED KILLS? All dressed in black you know what they say once you've gone black you can't come back!
So who was she trying to hide from? The Fashion Police? If she was going to be in camouflage she should have did her face too. What a waste. Guantanamo Prisoner? The National Campaign For Non Thinking Idiots who support a fool who uses her son's grief to show us how bad war is to all mankind.
A terrorist is a terrorist get it right.
Ahhh, the last time I checked I think we already knew that you're a moron.

I truly repect her honesty and reserve. She is not some fake teabagger holding up a whacko Nazi sign at a FOX BOGUS Channel-sponsored lunatic-fest. Her beliefs are heartfelt and thoughful.

Wha....the mainstream "liberal" media actually covered an anti-war protest? When Cindy and others spoke before hundreds of thousands of protesters in recent years, CBS et al were nowhere to be seen (although European news agencies did cover these events). So what's up? I guess when there is a Democratic president in office, the veil of self-censorship can be lifted--at least long enough to give the Pres some grief.

Cindy Sheehan is the bravest woman in the peace movement. She has more courage and intelligence than the JOINT CHIEFS OF STAFF in the Pentagon. If the U.S. did not have endless wars we would have money for health care, housing and jobs.

Cindy Sheehan is a selfish woman, She will sacrifice her son and other mothers sons for her own benefit, Their deaths will mean nothing..

"If they come home without stopping Al Qaeda and the Taliban. you will be picking your hair off your lap as it falls out from radiation poisoning just before you die, right here in the "good 'ol" United States of America.
That is a guarantee!!!
You think Iran wants nukes to keep them warm at night???
They turned down our and Russias offer to build the reactor for the 'for free' if they allow us to keep an eye on it. "

Good!! I wish more democrats would toughen up against the republican, ulta-conservative movement...including our President. Obama could stand to do a little protesting himself.

But alas, democrats have long been plagued with antipathy. Only Grayson has the nerve to stand up to republicans over healthcare. Nobody else has.

Obama needs to realize that he's not at a Harvard debate team anymore. He's in Washington. Fight fire with fire Mr. President. You desparately need a win on something here. A speech won't bring it.

You can blame the DLC, and their efforts to move the party right. Look at Clinton, signed NAFTA, signed the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, signed Welfare reform...Does that sound like a progressive agenda or a Republican wet dream? Would FDR or even teddy Roosevelt have put together such an agenda to throw the middle class under the bus?

I find it interesting that so many folks have bought into the flimsy rationale for these illegal wars conjured up in a broad money-making conspiracy involving the Bush/Cheney crime syndicate (with the Carlyle Group and Halliburton) raking in billions in bloodmoney profits. (Making a killing, literally).

Even if you believe the fairy-tale huckster official explanation of 911, 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudia Arabian, but yet we attacked Iraq and Afghanistan. Why?

Because Afghanistan is the spot the major players in the oil and natural gas industries have decided to put oil and natural gas pipelines thus solidifying their hold on mideast supplies and putting them in a position to control these natural resources on into the foreseeable future.

The Bush Family has a major stake in the Carlyle Group and Unocal, which is why they installed a past director of Unocal as their puppet president in Afghanistan, to try and insure protection for their pipelines, which are worth potentially trillions of dollars in profits.

962 publicly repeated lies (wmd, wmd) (they even showed us satelite photos of the exact locations) oughta be enough for most intelligent folks to figure out that something is very wrong with all of this.

Rather than sending more of our sons and daughters to get churned up in this bloodmoney-making scheme, or put another way, sacrificed at the altar of greeed, we need to be reinvestigating 911, we need to be holding war-crime/genocide trials for the entire Bush/Cheney crime syndicate, and we need to demand that Mr. Obama follow through on his campaign pledge to stop this insanity.

Even if you've bought hook, line, and sinker, the bizarre physics defying explanation of the events of 911, that cave men with razor blades defeated the greatest military ever assembled, (rofl) you should be intelligent enough to understand that we're literally creating entire generations of new terrorists by bombing the hundreds of thousands of innocents caught up in this blood-for-oil man-made catastrophe. The blood of a million human beings is now on our hands.

But then, that would fit right in with Darth the Cheney's scheme for never ending war for never ending profits while they steal away our rights and freedoms in the name of protecting us from the boogeyman.

Don't believe a word of it.

We might as well be chasing Emmanuel Goldstein.

Oh thats right, we are, because we've always been at war with Eurasia.

Stop the war, start the war-crime trials, or welcome to 1984.
