Steele: Don't Send Angry Liberals Our Way

(AP Photo/Seth Wenig)
The Democratic National Committee released a web video yesterday entitled "Enough of the Mob," which suggests that Republicans and their allies are "organizing angry mobs" to "destroy President Obama and stop the change Americans voted for."

The video concludes by asking supporters to call the Republican Party and "tell them you've had enough of the mob." The phone number of the Republican National Committee then appears onscreen.

Those who call the number are told to press one if they are calling in regard to the DNC video. When they do, they are told to call a different phone number "to give us your feedback on the Democratic National Committee's advertisement." Concludes the recording: "Thanks so much and have a great day."

The phone number that callers are given, however, is the main number of the DNC. Callers are not informed of this fact. At no point does the RNC allow callers to register their complaints. (The situation was first flagged by the satire site Wonkette.)

I asked RNC chairman Michael Steele, who held a conference call this afternoon, why the RNC is redirecting the callers, noting that Republicans believe Americans should have the right to complain to Democrats at town hall meetings and elsewhere.

Steele responded that "we are not inciting anyone to go out and disrupt anything."

"We are encouraging people to visit their congressman or their senator," he said. "As citizens they have a right to express their points of view."

Steele, sounding angry, then said, "don't sit there and think that you're going to direct a bunch of angry liberals to call the RNC when I know full well what that's all about." He added that he gets "the joke."

Steele went on to complain about the "arrogance" of an Obama administration that he said was looking down its nose at his mother, sister, family members and coworkers.

"To sit back and say that this is some Republican cabal is a bunch of baloney," he said. "And you can substitute that B for something else if you want."

Steele added that callers should "talk to your own party because they're the ones that are ginning this nonsense up."

He concluded his comments by saying, "and besides, I thought it was a good idea."

I do not see anyway they can lower how much Medicare is costing, which is what they say they are going to do, while the numbers of people getting on Medicare keep growing.

If the Government keeps spending more money and raising our deficient things are going to get a lot worse for all Americans.

This is very important and is not about the republicans and democrats it is about all of our futures, too many people act like we got to beat the other party instead of looking at what all this means.

This is an orchestrated effort not only by the right wing teabagging wackos but by their corporate masters and their wacko representatives in Congress. This goes right to the top of the CONS party.

This is an coordinated plan to bring down the President and the country if necessary for the big corporations.

We must go to the Republican meetings and their headquarters and gatherings and fight back. We must Fight the Right by monkey wrenching their plans and harassing them to no end. Cmme on people, let's do it.

I just tried the number. No go at any extension. Dial 0 for Operator. Extension not valid. Make up an extension. Please hold. Not valid. So I'll say it here. Steele, your organization, your screaming mouthpieces, and your followers are no good for the country. Your political impotence and moral bankruptcy are evident. Your actions are becoming more and more dangerous to the union. That is not your government's opinion. It is not DNC's opinion. It is mine.

I have this reminder for Steele. The Republican Party remains the GOP which supposedly stands for grand ole party. Based on its practices and rites of accession it is more like GOB; good ole boys. We all know what that means. Mr. Steele, when you have done your piece as the token black attack dog, do you really believe the good ole boys, that pull the strings from the smoke back rooms, would let you move up? Look what they did to Powel when he proffered well informed ideas about how to proceed in Iraq.

Watch your 6, Mr. Steele!!! The GOBs don?t have it.

Corporate-funded astroturf-roots campaigns meant to drown out public discussion is not democracy. It's a transparent fraud and needs to be outed as such.

The period of greatest expansion/growth/productivity in the US occured during Bill Clintons last six years - when the Republicans controlled both houses of Congress. Maybe we can repeat that scenario in another year and a half.

That same Republicon Congress was the cause of all that continues to ail the US economy by deregulating the always disshonest banking industry, same as the Republicons did in the 1920's which caused the Great Depression. ONe thing that we can all counto on from conservatives is that they never learn from their failed past, thus they will never have a long lived future in any democracy.

I received an email newsletter from the Reserve Officer's Association today. Among the usual self-promotional stuff, it lets its members know that somebody (I say, swift-boating pukes) has been spreading rumors that healthcare reform measures will adversely impact our TriCare medical benefits. They assure us that this is untrue, although in careful terms (mustn't alienate some of their own members, I guess). Here's a quote from what I received :"ROA has been receiving a lot of calls and e-mails with concerns from retired ROA members that the proposed National Health care plan will deny them TRICARE or TRICARE For Life coverage in the new health bill (H.R. 3200)." Somebody is spreading lies and distortion, enough so that a retired officers' group responded to its concerned members. I wonder: how low will the right wing scum go in their lies and propaganda?

Right winged scum don't have a platform except self-centeredness, so they will lie to the dumbed down southern whites that continue to vote Republicon because it is the party of racists, the obese, and bitter white folk clinging to their guns and phoney religion.

I guess MLK was an uncle tom as well belonging to the Republican party as he did. Your argument is beautiful in its simplicity. The blissful simplicity of ignorance. According to you, blacks have to vote for democrats or they are still slaves? If they should only vote for one party while the rest of Americans vote for whoever they please, doesn?t that make them slaves? Slaves to the party of the KKK. Orwell was right about political parties eternally confusing people about allegiances. Obama stepped on and exploited black ministers, politicians and community leaders in Illinois to gain power and then did the same nationwide to become president. He is a much needed symbol for the black community, but alas just a symbol, nothing more. Let?s hope for better leadership in the future.

Alfalfa, Uncle Tom, house****** -- the racism on this thread is unreal. You people who think the color of a person's skin should control what goes on in his mind -- or more accurately, that YOU should be able to decide what should go on in his mind and what shouldn't based on the color of his skin -- need to do some serious examination of what goes on in YOUR minds. No matter what the color of your skin may be, you ought to be ashamed of yourselves.

Exactly! And, you're right, it's going to get much worse for them!

But, point-of-fact. encouraging a bunch of 'angry liberals' to call the RNC, and then re-directing them back to the DNC, does NOT constitute a 'dirty trick'!

Because the RNC people are not going to have to take the calls anyway, right?! So, WHAT'S the problem? Mr. Steele is loosing it over nothing!

But, this points out something even more fundamental: the GOP is great at 'dishing it out' especially when it's illegal, but they 'can't take it' even when it's not!

They're a bunch of sore losers!
by antoniof123 August 5, 2009 3:50 PM EDT
They are like kids conservatives and liberals.

What a joke but right now more people are working with the left then the right and the more they anger the left the worst it is going to get.

Looks like being a bully isn't working any more for the GOP.

wtlibbs, ?????? That's all you "conservatives" have done since November: wah-wah-wha, belly ache, complain and shout down discussion at town hall meetings. You people don't even know what demcoracy is, much less how it's suppose to work. Oh, did I mention you are a bunch of childish hypocrites... I can't wait for 2010: the economy will be much improved and repugnats will loose even more seats in both houses. Yeah, can't wait 'til 2010!

WE FINALLY HAVE A PRESIDENT WHO KEEPS US INFORMED OF WHAT HE IS DOING, AND HIS PLANS FOR THE FUTURE. IT IS SCARING THE REPUBLICANS TO DO CRAZY THINGS THANK GOD MC CAIN DIDN'T WIN CAN YOU IMAGINE THE MESS IT WOULD BE WITH ALL THESE BIG BUSINESS NUTS RUNNING THE COUNTRY.

Of course the Rethugs are ratcheting up their "protect the status quo" rhetoric by conspiring with the money men (the insurance lobby) to create havoc, or any kind of roadblock to progressive change for the people of America.

As long as the Rethugs have the ear of the hillbilly redneck Forest Gump types, they can easily confuse and misinform using half-truths and outright lies, and remain one of the obstacles to true reform.

Take the Rethugs labeling and distorting health care reform toward universal health care as "Socialized Medicine." This is their effort to make the hicks believe we are headed toward communism. What a sack of pure BS, but the uneducated and uninformed assimilate this misinformation as pure gospel, achieving for the Reps their intended goal of helping the predators in the health care racket continue the raping and pillaging and suffering of the sick and needy in this country.

The Reps have no integrity, no honor, and are by and large little more than whipping boys for the rich corrupt elite, who's only goal is holding onto the wealth of this once-great nation while keeping the rest of us enslaved economically.

And this Mr. Steele doing the bidding of the rich corrupt elite must be a real slap in the face for honest hard working folks everywhere, black, white, brown, or red, trying to get ahead in an increasingly tough world.

Don't let these thugs divide us!
